Defining Aston

The boundaries of Aston used for all Listings on this website are those of the Aston Registration District for the 1911 census which comprises the Civil Parish of Aston with sub-registration districts of Aston Manor, Bordesley, Deritend, Duddeston, and Erdington, and the Civil Parish of Erdington with sub-registration district of Erdington.

A map for the APC Memorial gives the defined area, and also shows how many men were located within each sub-section of the area. A small number of exceptions (13) can be seen and these are discussed in more detail in a document explaining how decisions have been reached. These same exceptions (which are for small areas of Birmingham St George's and West Bromwich - Handsworth bordering the Aston Manor sub-registration district) are applied to all Listings.
